How to press DTF print?

Pressing a DTF (Direct-to-Film) print involves transferring a design from a specially prepared film onto fabric using heat. DTF printing has become popular for creating vibrant and durable prints on various types of fabrics, including cotton, polyester, and blends.

Steps to Press a DTF Print:

  1. Prepare the Fabric: Place the garment on the heat press, ensuring itโ€™s wrinkle-free and clean. Pre-press the garment for 5โ€“10 seconds to remove any moisture or creases, which helps the transfer adhere smoothly.

  2. Position the DTF Transfer: Place the DTF film, printed side down (image side touching the fabric), onto the garment in the desired location. Secure it with heat-resistant tape if needed to avoid shifting during pressing.

  3. Set Heat Press Temperature and Time for Shirts: DTF prints typically require:

    • Temperature: 300โ€“325ยฐF (149โ€“163ยฐC)
    • Time: 10โ€“15 seconds
    • Pressure: Medium to firm pressure

  4. Set Heat Press Temperature and Time for Neoprene koozies: DTF prints typically require:

    • Temperature: 275ยฐF (135ยฐC)
    • Time: about 3 seconds
    • Pressure:ย Light to medium pressure
    • Coolย - for about 60 seconds (cold peel)ย 
    • Press again - 5-10 Seconds

  6. Press the Design: Close the heat press and apply heat for the specified time. Be sure to follow the time and temperature recommended by the DTF film manufacturer, as it may vary slightly.

  7. Peel the Film: Allow the print to cool slightly, as DTF transfers are typically peeled when cold or warm. Gently peel off the film to reveal the transferred design. For a smoother finish, you can add another 5โ€“10 seconds of pressing with parchment paper over the design (optional).

After pressing, your DTF print should be vibrant, durable, and ready to wear. DTF prints generally provide excellent color vibrancy, stretch, and wash resistance.
